Our summer maintenance classes are perfect for dancers who want to continue to improve and advance their ballet skills as well as new students interested in trying ballet!

  • Session 1 June (3-weeks): Progressing Ballet Technique/ Flexibility Maintenance Class

    Demi III, Demi IV, and Grande Students Only

    Thursdays June 6, 13, and 20 5:15-6:15 PM

    Class Description: Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program developed by renowned Australian ballet dancer and master teacher, Marie Walton-Mahon specifically for students of ballet to strengthen and develop better connection and understanding of the muscles, alignment, flexibility and mobility needed for ballet technique. The method exercises muscle memory to improve student's understanding of core stability, weight placement and alignment. Each exercise has been developed with care and guidance with a team of physiotherapists. This summer's class will also include safe stretching that will increase flexibility and give dancer's a practice that they can do at home.

    Prop Needed: Please bring a stability ball. Here is a recommended option.

  • Creative Movement (3 year olds)

    Class Description: Creative movement is movement that reflects the inner state of a child and encourages them to act on what they are learning and express their individuality, while learning the basic elements of dance. This program is based on creativity, musicality, imagination, and basic dance elements. This level helps children develop body control, learn how to respond to music and rhythm, and gives them a different way of expressing themselves. Children gain coordination and balance through varied movements. By listening to the music and learning how to move in time with the beat children begin to hone their senses and learn how their bodies can work in harmony with the stimuli around them more finely.

  • Petite I & II (4-5 year olds + 6 year olds)

    Class Description: The goal of all Petite classes is body and simple muscle awareness, posture, strengthening of locomotive skills, musical awareness and learning very basic ballet technique and terminology all done in a fun, supportive, and creative way. Ballet class discipline and tradition is an important part of this program. This includes classroom etiquette, attire, hair, and preparation and finish of exercises.

  • Demi I (7-9 year olds) & Demi II

    Class Description: Demi develop their classical ballet skills building upon fundamental skills learned in Petite. Demi dancers learn to count music, develop skills through basic ballet barre and center exercises and expand their French ballet terminology.

  • NEW Ballet Students Demi I (10-14 year olds)

    Students newer to ballet at NMDA will benefit from summer to improve technique.

    Class Description: This class is designed for students new to ballet to learn and build foundational technique. It’s the perfect class for a student to try on ballet before committing to the school year. This is also a good fit or students who just joined ballet this past season to hone skills.

  • Demi III

    Class Description: Dancers will develop their classical ballet skills. Demi III ballet training includes more challenging combinations emphasizing flexibility, precision, and attention to detail, musicality, increased artistry, and correct classical technique. As dancers develop finesse in incorporating multiple facets of their training, the difficulty increases.

  • Demi IV and Grande

    Mondays-Technique 5:30-7:00 PM (Madame Km)
    Thursdays-Repertoire/ Pointe 6:30-7:30 PM (Madame Gracie)

    Class Description: Dancers will develop their classical ballet skills.
