Nutcracker 2024-2025

We are thrilled to welcome you to Northern Michigan Dance Academy for the upcoming production of The Nutcracker. Your dedication and talent are vital to the success of our performance, and we are excited to embark on this artistic journey together.
Registration
Please register for The Nutcracker using the link. The registration fee covers rehearsal time, costume(s), costume alterations, headpieces, and props. The students do not own the costumes used for Nutcracker. The studio owns the costumes.
Registration Deadline is Monday, September 16th. If we do not receive your registration and signed expectations by the deadline, you are unable to participate. This is to ensure all participating have a costume and so choreographers can plan for all dancers.
Rehearsals:
Nutcracker practices will be held on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings depending on the role assigned. Choreographers will work with students and parents to find the optimal rehearsal time, however, cannot guarantee all accommodations can be made due to the number of dancers, choreographers schedules and studio space availability. We will do our best.

Friday, December 13 @ 7 PM
Saturday, December 14 @ 1 PM and 7 PM

Participation:
The Nutcracker is a special tradition at the studio and for our community. This opportunity is extended to Petite dancers and up. The Creative Movement dancers are encouraged to attend the performance but are not permitted to participate. We encourage Creative Movement to attend the show with family and friends and be ready to participate as they grow.
Our Petite dancers will be split into A/B groups. Each group will dance one evening performance and one matinee performance.
Group A: Friday @ 7 PM and Saturday at 1 PM
Group B: Saturday @ 7 PM and Sunday at 2 PM
Auditions:
This year we are changing the audition process. Only Demi 3 and up will audition for the production. If a dancer is unable to participate in auditions, they are still able to participate, however, specialty roles will be reserved for dancers who attend auditions.

Expectations:
By signing up for Nutcracker, you acknowledge and agree to the following commitments and expectations:
1. Rehearsal Attendance:
- Attendance at all rehearsals is crucial for the success of the production. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise; therefore, planned absences must be communicated at least two weeks in advance.
- While we strive to accommodate occasional absences, it is important to note that missing rehearsals affects the entire team. If your absences exceed 25% of scheduled rehearsals, it becomes a significant concern that needs to be addressed.
2. Consequences of Excessive Absences:
- As a dancer with NMDA, you are allowed to miss up to 25% of rehearsals without jeopardizing your stage time. Exceeding this limit may result in reduced stage time or another dancer being assigned to your role.
3. Mandatory Week of Rehearsals:
It is mandatory for all dancers to attend rehearsals at The Braumart during the week leading up to the performance. These rehearsals are essential for finalizing choreography, spacing, and technical aspects of the show.
By signing up for Nutcracker, you confirm that you have read and understand the commitments outlined above. You agree to prioritize attendance at rehearsals and understand the consequences of exceeding the allowable absence limit. You also agree to attend all mandatory rehearsals at The Braumart the week of the performance.
If you are unable to commit to the expectations and mandatory rehearsals, please discuss with Katie Roell prior to auditions.
